Kenyan Safari Highlights Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta Int’l Airport, met by our representative and transfer to a city hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Day spent at leisure exploring the city. Optional excursions are available upon request. Dinner and overnight at a city hotel.

Day 2 Nairobi – Mt. Kenya
08.00HRS – Pick up from your hotel and drive 155kms northeast of Nairobi through highlands and coffee farms to Outspan Hotel for lunch. This serves at the base hotel to the famous Treetops, where the current British Queen wad holidaying when she received news of her father’s death and her ascension to the throne.

After lunch transfer to Treetops for overnight and game viewing from the hotel’s balcony, where you have a fantastic view of the animals that flock the floodlit waterhole and salt lick below.

Day 3 Mt. Kenya – Samburu
After breakfast transfer to your base hotel and continue north through the spectacular, albeit semi-arid bush country of the Nothern Frontier District, arriving in time for lunch at a lodge or camp. Afternoon game drive in Samburu National Reserve, full of rare animal species such as the Grevy’s Zebra and long-necked Gerenuk.

Dinner and overnight at a lodge or camp.

Day 4 Samburu
Full day in Samburu with game drives and all meals being provided. Dinner and overnight at a lodge or camp.

Day 5 Samburu – Baringo
After breakfast drive via Nakuru with lunch stop at Hotel Kunste. Thereafter continue to Lake Baringo Club arriving late afternoon. A nature walk conducted by a resident guide can be arranged upon request. Dinner and overnight at Lake Baringo club.

Day 6 Bogoria – Mt. Elgon
Early breakfast followed by visit to Lake Bogoria before driving to Mount Kenya Wildlife Service Bandas, located with the Mt. Elgon National Park, picnic lunch followed by afternoon drive to the Elephant Caves where you will be able to walk and explore with a guide on hand to explain the caves’ history. Dinner and overnight at the bandas.

Day 7 Mt. Elgon
After breakfast embark on a nature walk, finding an ideal site for a picnic lunch before returning for dinner and overnight at the Elgon Bandas.

Day 8 Mt. Elgon – Kakamega
After breakfast depart for Kakamega where your drive takes you over the Tugen Hills, through the beautiful Kerio Valley and Sirikwa Plateau into the Kakamega Forest. This is the country’s only tropical rain forest and formed part of the dense rain forest that stretched from West Africa, across Central Africa and into the highlands areas and West of the Great Rift Valley.

The forest is world renowned as home to several hundred species of birds including rare snake eating birds, insects, monkeys and other mammals, as well as countless, exotic tree species. Dinner and overnight at Kakamega Golf Club.

Day 9 Kakamega – Kisumu
Drive to Kisumu’s Sunset Hotel after breakfast arriving in time fore lunch. Thereafter relax by the pool that looks out on to Lake Victoria.

Day 10 Kisumu –Rusinga Island
After breakfast drive via Ahero to Katito with picnic en-route. Thereafter continue via Sondu, Oyugis onto Kisii with shortstop to watch the Kisii soapstone carvers. Thereafter continue via Rongo, Homa Bay, Mbita to your final destination across the causeway to Rusinga Island on Lake Victoria.

Your stay in Kenya would not be complete without a visit to this Paradise Island located within the second largest fresh water lake in the world, and the source of the River Nile. The lake borders Kenya and Uganda. Dinner and overnight at Rusinga Island Lodge.

Day 11 Rusinga Island
A full day spent having fun and exploring – try your hand at fishing at Takawiri, or take a boat ride on the lake. For bird enthusiast - enjoy the sight of fish Eagles perch atop trees like sentries then suddenly swoop down for fish on the lake’s surface; a fantastic ‘bird action’ photo opportunity. Dinner and overnight at Rusinga Island Lodge.

Day 12 Rusinga Island – Kericho
After breakfast drive via Kisii to Kericho Tea Hotel with picnic lunch stop en-route. Arrive at Tea Hotel in the afternoon and relax in the hotel’s lush gardens taking in the magnificent view tea farms stretching for miles all around you. Dinner and overnight at Tea Hotel in Kericho.

Day 13 Kericho – Nakuru
After a leisurely breakfast drive to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in time for lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge. Afternoon game drive around lakeshore and the park in search of game. Dinner and overnight at lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 14 Nakuru – Nairobi
Early morning game drive before breakfast. Thereafter drive to Nairobi arriving during lunch and drop off at your hotel.

  • Free mineral water during game drives only, all meet and greet services, all arrival and departure transfers
  • Accommodation as stipulated in the itinerary, transportation in a chauffeur driven minivan with pop-up roof for easy game viewing & photography, services of an English speaking driver-guide, game viewing drives and parks entrance fees as indicated in the itinerary, all Government taxes and levies, free safari hat
  • On safari accessories in the minivan: - First-aid kit, wildlife books, beanbags for easy photography, a pair of binoculars, cool box and fire extinguisher.
  • 24 hours stand-by contact number, all meals as indicated in the itinerary, guaranteed window seat in the minivan
  • Two-way long range high frequency radio communication in each minivan

Our costs exclude:

  • All items of personal nature e.g. telephone call bills, fax/email bills etc, tips and gratuities to hotel, lodges, camp staff and driver- guide(s)
  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, any local or international flight and departure taxes, laundry services
  • Holiday supplement over Christmas and New Year, any other item(s) not included in our itinerary.
